C2C Carsharing app

The project is designed to make it easier for people who have a driver’s license to get around the city. The idea is that the client, using a mobile application, finds the car closest to him, books it and drives from point A to point B.

The uniqueness of the application lies in the fact that cars are provided not by a carsharing company, but by people. Therefore, it will be possible to save on a trip compared to a taxi up to 30% of the cost of the trip.

Task

Develop logical architecture of car rental application, application interface and final design. Implement a rating system based on the user's driving style and set a tariff for the user based on driving style.

Facts

Carsharing for everyone

Who lives in the city and for anyone with a driver’s license.

Easy to use

You can find and book a car in 2 minutes. The app’s user-friendly interface will show the nearest available car for rent on an interactive map.

Rating opens up new opportunities

The rating system helps decent drivers save money on rent and extends the life of the vehicles. Users with high ratings receive advantages and bonuses.

Large choice of cars

All cars are sorted into 3 categories from economy to premium. You choose what you want to drive today.

Safety first

All cars that are connected to the service are equipped with special sensors that monitor the car’s location, fuel level, driving style and other parameters. All vehicles are insured and checked for technical serviceability before use.

Monetization

Why it’s profitable?

The obvious benefit is a savings of up to 30% on the trip compared to the same cab ride.

Service profit

For each trip a 20% commission is charged, deducted from the rental amount, according to the tariff chosen by the customer before booking the car. Each category of car has its own rates for both per minute and daily rentals.

Passive income for car owners

The remaining 80% of the trip amount is transferred to the car owner.

◉ 01 // My role in the project

As a product designer,
I was involved in every
aspect of the dev process

Step 1

Idea development

The goal is to make it easy for people to rent out their cars through a reliable service and earn passive income. And users could quickly find and rent a car through a convenient application.

Step 2

Audience analysis

A user analysis was carried out, which revealed the main audience divided by age, wealth and place of residence. This made it possible to determine their needs and expectations from the service and application.

Step 3

Developing user personas

In the process of analyzing the target audience, the key personas of users were highlighted.

Step 4

Competitor analysis

Direct competitors were analyzed in terms of usability of the app and the carsharing service. The advantages and disadvantages were highlighted for further analysis of the implementation of opportunities.

Step 5

User research

A user research was conducted to understand their needs and expectations from the future application.

Step 6

Mapping

User journey map was built to understand how to create a user-friendly rating screen in the app. A mindmap was also created to understand and develop the functionality of the application, as was a navigation map.

Step 7

Wireframing

On the base of this work was created detailed wireframes of the main parts of the application.

Step 8

Unique style and design

A unique visual style was developed and UIKit was created.

Step 9

Interactive prototype

After all the main application screens were completed in the final design, an interactive prototype was created in Figma.

Identify target audience
of users and understand
their needs and pains

Young people

The first group is young people aged 18 to 35 who live in city and use carsharing as an alternative to public transport and cabs. They value freedom of movement and flexibility of schedule, and do not want to waste time searching for parking or waiting for a bus.

Lives in the countryside

The second group – people who live outside of city and come to the city for short periods, for example, for business trip or tourism. They choose carsharing because it is a convenient and economical way to get around the city.

Family couples

The third group is young families with children, who prefer to use carsharing instead of their own car, when they need to make short trips around the city. They choose carsharing because it is more economical and convenient than buying and maintaining their own car.

Businessmen

The fourth group is business people who often make short trips around the city, for example to meet with clients or move between offices. They choose carsharing because it is a faster and more convenient way to get around the city than public transport or cabs.

Carshare users in Tbilisi want a convenient and affordable way to get around the city without having to own their own car. They appreciate the cost-effectiveness and flexibility in the choice of car models, as well as the convenience and speed of the rental process. In addition, it is important to

some users that carsharing is environmentally friendly and that they can choose electric cars. For some users it is also important that carsharing provides the opportunity to rent a car for long trips out of town, but at a reasonable price.

For carshare users in Tbilisi, this product is important because it provides a convenient and economical way to get around the city without having to own your own car. Carsharing also provides greater flexibility in the choice of car models and configurations, as well as the convenience and speed of the rental process. It allows users to save time and money, because they don’t have to spend time buying a car, maintaining and repairing it, and they don’t have to spend

time searching for parking. In addition, for some users, the environmental aspect of carsharing is important when they can choose electric cars, which reduces emissions in the urban atmosphere. For some users, it is also important that carsharing provides the opportunity to rent a car for long trips out of town, but at a reasonable price, allowing them to save money on transportation costs.

  1. The need to save time and money on moving around the city without having to own your own car.

Some carsharing companies also provide electric cars, which reduces emissions in the city atmosphere and solves users’ environmental problems.

#user_personas
◉ 03 // User personas

Typical app users
were created based on
user research

At this stage, 3 personas were created to maximally describe typical users of the application.

When developing personas, the following factors were taken into account: gender, age, financial status, place of residence and some other factors.

Client manager in a bank office

George Gelovani, 21 y.o.

He works as a client manager in a bank, combining his studies with his work. Because of this, George does not have much free time and would like to be able to relax more and spend time with friends and family. He also has a girlfriend who he has been dating for 5 months. A year ago, George received his driver’s license, but he used public transportation, because he does not have his own car. At the moment, the young man has no opportunity to buy a car, but he does not want to, because the car would start to take up his time and money for maintenance and repair, which George has so little.

George works at a bank branch and every morning he has to get to the office during rush hour. The large number of people in transport on the way to and from work irritates George. In addition, the bus George takes to work and home takes a long time to get there. He is willing to spend more money for a comfortable ride from home to work and vice versa. From time to time George takes a cab so that he will not be late for work.

Small business owner

Lasha Kapanadze, 35 y.o.

Lasha is a caring family man. He is 35 years old and lives with his wife and two children in Tbilisi, Georgia. Lasha loves his family very much and would like to spend more time with them. He always tries to make time for walks and dinners together or trips to the outdoors.

He has his own business, a small café, which requires a lot of his time and effort. He often has to drive around town to meet with vendors and run errands. There is only one car in the family and his wife shares the car with him to pick up the children from school and for personal errands. Lasha cannot use public transportation to meet with vendors and often uses cabs while his wife has the car.

The cafe takes up a lot of Lasha’s time and energy, so he is looking for a solution to get around the city comfortably for both personal errands and business tasks.

SMM manager

Lia Lomidze, 24 y.o.

Lia is a young and ambitious SMM manager. She is 24 years old and in her last year of university, where she is studying marketing and social media. She is passionate about fashion and likes to follow the latest trends. Lia has a boyfriend with whom they are planning a wedding in the near future.

Lia loves spending time with her girlfriends and often uses cabs when they go out. However, to go out of town in a cab, the cost of the trip is quite high, so Lia is looking for a more affordable and convenient way to get around.

Lia works in an office and often takes public transportation there or occasionally orders a cab. She doesn’t like to use public transportation because it’s time-consuming and inconvenient, but she has to use it because she doesn’t have her own car. Lia wants to find a more efficient and faster way to get to work.
